Both teams competed in three preliminary rounds. The team consisting of students RJ Tare, Mitchell Lucas, and Nargiz Aghayeva advanced to the octofinal round and finished in the top 16 teams of the competition. The teams are co-coached by Ariana Meyers, Assistant Professor of Law, and Elizabeth Behrens, Director of Academic Success & Bar Passage.
NYU School of Law hosted 28 student teams from 19 different law schools across the country at the 20th Annual Immigration Law Competition from February 21st to February 23rd, 2025. The Final Argument was presided over by Hon. Anthony Johnstone of the Ninth Circuit, Hon. Nicole Berner of the Fourth Circuit, and Hon. Arun Subramanian of the Southern District of New York. This year’s competition was presented with support from sponsor, aiLegal Law.
“These students worked incredibly hard preparing and submitting their briefs and practicing their oral advocacy skills,” said Behrens. “They represented UND well in New York.”
NYU’s National Immigration Law Competition (ILC) began in 2006 and is the NYU Moot Court Board’s annual external moot court competition, open to teams from ABA-accredited law schools other than NYU Law. The ILC focuses on cutting-edge issues in the field of immigration law and is judged by panels of distinguished NYU alumni and legal practitioners from throughout New York. The final round is judged by federal appellate and district court judges.
