The American College of Bankruptcy has recognized third-year law student, Katelyn Heley, as its Eighth Circuit Distinguished Law Student for 2025. The Distinguished Bankruptcy Law and Business Student program was established by the American College of Bankruptcy to identify and promote prospective leaders in the insolvency and bankruptcy profession. Distinguished Bankruptcy Law Students are selected annually for each Circuit.
Nominated by Professor Alexandra Sickler, Heley was selected for her academic excellence, professional accomplishments in bankruptcy or restructuring-related courses, participation in relevant community service programs, a passion for the restructuring and insolvency area, and leadership potential in the field.
Heley is the first UND Law student to win this award. She is committed to becoming a leader in North Dakota in the field of bankruptcy, specializing in serving farmers and agricultural businesses through multiple avenues: providing legal counsel, conducting research, publishing articles, and advocating for solutions.
Heley will be presented with the award at the American College of Bankruptcy Induction Ceremony and Annual Meeting in Washington D.C. She will receive an all-expense paid trip to attend and network with prominent bankruptcy practitioners and judges.
