UND School of Law attained a significant achievement in this year’s U.S. News and World Report rankings by securing a strong 32nd place in the category of Best Legal Writing Programs. This achievement marks a major milestone for the program which now ranks ahead of many of the Midwest region and well-known national law schools’ legal writing .

This ranking reflects the dedication of the legal writing faculty and its esteemed position within the national legal writing community. It highlights the school’s robust legal writing curriculum, distinguished faculty, and the rigorous training provided to students.

“Our legal writing program is designed to equip students with the essential skills needed for effective legal practice,” said Brian Pappas, dean of UND Law. “We are thrilled to see our efforts recognized in this way. This ranking is a testament to the hard work of our faculty and the dedication of our students.”

Professor Jennifer Cook, director of the UND School of Law Legal Writing Program commented, “The ranking reflects our emphasis on cultivating a legal writing program that prioritizes teaching students the most current and effective legal research, writing, and advocacy skills necessary for success in the legal profession.  Our new national ranking signals to a national audience, what we at UND School of Law have long known, that our legal writing program successfully trains our students to be practice ready.”

“The rise in our ranking is a reflection of our reputation in the legal writing community for innovation and excellence,” said Professor Carolyn Williams, who spearheads the school’s innovative team-based-learning approach to teaching legal writing. “Our unified tenure track allows us to foster close collaboration among faculty, ensuring that our program not only adapts to new challenges like the NextGen bar exam but also consistently delivers cutting-edge education.”
