With the COVID-19 vaccine rollout underway, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and North Dakota Department of Health (NDDOH) have recently issued updated guidance related to quarantine for those who are close contacts to a confirmed case of COVID-19, but are fully vaccinated.
Under this guidance, vaccinated individuals can be exempt from quarantine after coming in contact with a COVID-19 case, provided that (1) they are fully vaccinated (meaning at least 2 weeks have passed since the second dose in a 2-dose series or at least 2 weeks have passed since the one dose of the single-dose vaccine) AND (2) they are asymptomatic since the COVID-19 exposure.  If either of these conditions are not met, the individual should be quarantined for the time period recommended by the CDC and NDDOH. The CDC also indicates that fully vaccinated people can travel within the United States and do not need COVID-19 testing or post-travel self-quarantine as long as they continue to take COVID-19 precautions while traveling.
Though the restrictions on quarantine have been loosened for those fully vaccinated, keep in mind that the CDC still recommends precautions remain in place, such as wearing masks, staying at least 6 feet apart, washing hands frequently, and avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces, particularly when gathering with unvaccinated people.
